Structure

The stewardship structure is founded on local climbers looking after their local crags.

The Steward Coordinator is appointed by the Board to lead and operate the stewardship program.

Victoria is divided into regions based on Traditional Owner organisations assigned as Representative Aboriginal Parties. Not all climbing locations are covered by the stewardship program. Our primary focus is on the most popular locations and those with high cultural or environmental significance that require particular protection measures.

Regional Stewards are allocated to each region to assist the Steward Coordinator with the leadership and operation of the stewardship program in that region.

Each region is assigned a group of Stewards and Volunteers structured to suit the needs and size of the area. Stewards roles can vary depending on the nature of their allocated area.

Stewards allocated to outdoor climbing areas have the responsibility to regularly review and document the impact of climbing in their designated area using structured assessment tools. They flag work required to prevent or address damage or threats to the area and help to prioritise and organise that work.

Volunteers can put up their hand to help with working bees or projects in any area.

Stewards can volunteer for a variety of other roles including training, funding or promotion.

The structure and stewardship positions are reviewed annually.
