Popular Climbing Areas in Wurundjeri Country
The most popular climbing locations in Wurundjeri country are climbing gyms and bouldering walls in Melbourne/Naarm and surrounds. CSV activity in this region is predominantly focussed reaching out to climbers who start their climbing in a gym or bouldering wall and want to expand their experience to outdoor rock. We run information sessions that help people understand the actions they can take to care for the places they will visit as climbers.
Mt Macedon (Camels Hump) is a significant place to the Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurung peoples – see the separate section on this climbing area.

“For the Wurundjeri community the natural world is also a cultural world; therefore the Wurundjeri people have a special interest in preserving not just their cultural objects, but the natural landscapes of cultural importance. The acknowledgement of broader attributes of the landscape as cultural values that require protection (encompassing, among other things, a variety of landforms, ecological niches and habitats as well as continuing cultural practices and archaeological material) is essential to the identity and wellbeing of the Wurundjeri people.”
